::: New Additions, Cuba and Bimini, Topographic Anomalies

Two new additions to the newly titled 'Topographic Anomalies' section have been added to the SD site.  A series of mound like features have been documented off the coast of Puerto Rico and can be seen here: Puerto Rico Parallel Topographic Mound Features

Topo_a_3 The features can be seen in parallel line formations that are spaced equally all around the island of Puerto Rico.  The topographic images were taken from the NGDC 3 Arc-Second Coastal Relief Model available online.  Features like these are not abundant within the coastal relief data and it's uncertain if the features are data glitches or actual anomalous landforms.

Another image found here shows the mound anomalies disappearing then reappearing suggesting the anomalies are actually on the sea floor.  The red arrows in the image are spaced equally and the equal distant spacing seems to be very precise.

Similar features exist within the image data around the island of Bimini and are viewable in the image study: Bimini Topographic Mound Features

Topo_bimini_2 The 'blip' features are approximately 600-800 feet in diameter and exist to the North, SE, and South of the island of Bimini.  The Southernmost image available here reveals the 'blip' features existing in 3 parallel rows.  The 'blip' features also make up a larger grid feature between Florida and the Bahama Bank seen here and marked by the red arrows to the left of the topographic image.  The whole area appears to be ordered and contains the 'blip' features arranged in a grid formation.

Many comments have been made concerning the area between Bimini and Florida containing anything from underwater domes cited from pilots, to lost pyramids and underwater lost cities.  If the topographic data is accurate there is a possibility the 'blip' features may have been created by ancient man.  The explanations for the 'blips' include oil survey explosions, military bomb sites, ancient pyramids, ancient agricultural signs and data noise.

::: SD Update: Circles, Lines and Patterns, Cuba

A lost city has been reported and documented off the Northern Coast of Pinar del Rio by Charles Berlitz. The placemarks in the following image study reveal areas with patterning, circular features and more linear features just like those seen in the Bahamas near Proctor's Road and the Bimini Wall.

'An expanse of stone ruins, several acres in area and apparently white, as if they were marble, was reported off the northern coast of Cuba by the late Leicester Hemingway former resident of Cuba and brother of the famous novelest...' referring to Ernest Hemingway. This was documented by Charles Berlitz.

North of Pinar del Rio:

Linear Features can also be found North of Pinar del Rio similar to those seen on the Great Bahama Bank and near the Bimini Wall in the Bahamas at an area referred to as Proctor's Road.  Proctor's Road is a straight line of stones placed at regular intervals under the water.

::: SD Update: Circles and Patterns, Outer Banks, North Carolina

Circles and Patterns, Outer Banks, North Carolina

Nc_1 A new satellite image study has been posted to the site that includes circular features aligned in rows off the coast of North Carolina near the Outer Banks. Anomalous areas can also be seen here that contain unusual patterns that may be artificial in origin. An interesting similarity is the fact that these features seem to mimic the shape of the Carolina Bays that can be found along the East coast of the US. However, these features are much smaller than the Bays. Scientists are still unsure how the Bays were formed but the most popular theory is a meteor event although no evidence of meteoric residue has ever been found. It's possible the circular features throughout the Bahamas and Cuba could also be related to those in Florida and along the Eastern Coast of the US.

The discovery of the ancient city of Akroteri on the island of Santorini was made by a local landowner who noticed numerous circular sink holes on his land.  One day while inspecting his land, he fell into one of the sink holes and discovered the lost city of Akroteri below.  The  smaller circular features in Florida, the Bahamas, the Keys, Cuba, the Caycos Islands, NC and along the East coast may not be evidence of meteor strikes, but they could be evidence of something below ground.  This is a possibility that has been overlooked by researchers and theorists as to how the Carolina bays and similar circular features were formed.  Perhaps they could be artificial in origin.  The jury is still out.

Carolina Bays
"The precise geomorphologic process responsible for creating these extraordinary features has long been debated, and more than a dozen theories of origin are commonly cited in the Carolina Bay literature: * Marine theories include sand bar dams across drowned valleys (Glenn, 1895); swales in underwater sand dunes (Glenn, 1895); submarine scour by eddies, currents and undertow (Melton, 1934); progressive lagoon segmentation (Cooke, 1934); gyroscopic eddies (Cooke, 1940; 1954); and fish nests created by the simultaneous waving of fish fins in unison over submarine artesian springs (Grant, 1945). Subaerial hypotheses include artesian spring sapping (Toumey, 1848); peat burning by paleo-Indians (Wells and Boyce, 1953); eolian deflation and/or deposition (Raisz, 1934; Price, 1951, 1958, 1968; and Carson and Hussey, 1962); solution (Johnson, 1936; Lobeck, 1939; Le Grand, 1953; and Shockley and others, 1956); periglacial thaw lakes tWolfe, 1953); wind deflation combined with perched water tables and lake shore erosion at a 90o angle to the prevailing wind (Thom, 1970); artesian spring sapping and eolian deposition (Johnson, 1936); and progressive lagoon segmentation modified by eolian processes stabilized by climatic changes (Price, 1951, 1958, 1968).

In general, however, the debate is properly divided into two camps: those who propose a number of terrestrial mechanisms operating together to form the Bays, and others who conclude that a single encounter with a space borne object best accounts for their unusual characteristics. The fifty odd year exchange between these two groups reveals a fundamental division of geological science and, indeed, other earth and human historical sciences. The question at hand is an old one: Are all earth's features and geological phenomena best explained by slow mechanisms, identifiable today and operating over long periods of time -- or is it reasonable to include dramatic, if seemingly rare, catastrophic events as punctuating factors in earth's evolution? The search for the origin of the Carolina Bays is heavily, and negatively, influenced by this wider dispute.

Field surveys were notable for their failure to locate any meteoritic material, or other features traditionally associated with meteor strikes (Ray Kacrowski, 1977, Carolina Bays: A Comparison with Modern Oriented Lakes, p 25-35). The researchers, however, should not be faulted for their lack of determination. Hundreds of Bays were examined in difficult field conditions (Savage) and included detailed magnetometer surveys suggesting buried material in certain locations, but failing to locate samples or produce consistent results ."

::: Circles in Linear Formations, Florida Keys

C_flor_2Circles in Linear Formations, Florida Keys
A new image study has been added to the website that includes underwater circular features in linear formations near the Green Mangrove Key, Buchanan Keys and Barnes Key in Florida. Circles in linear formations can also be seen near the Southern tip of Florida on land.

It is uncertain why the circles are arranged in linear features.  The circular features exist in larger as well as smaller forms.

The circular features can be seen on land as well as underwater.  It is still a mystery as to what has caused these circular features.  I've read everything from water seeping up through the surface to corals and marine life forming the circles.  However, it's a bit difficult to explain the circular features and a more plausible explanation is meteors or some type of volcanic activity.  I hesitate to suggest these features were possibly man-made, but the truth is no one knows for sure so perhaps the circles are remnants of something of an ancient origin.  They just can't be explained easily.

Hait_1Unusual patterns, circles and linear formations can also be seen near the Grand Bay off the coast of Haiti.

I hesitate to jump to conclusions but I can readily admit that patterns and circles like these do not exist everywhere so I find them more than a little unusual and anomalous.

::: Circular Features, Nassau- Bahamas

Nass_thCircular features spotted in the shallow waters of the Bahamas near the island of Nassau. It is uncertain what has caused the features, but the interesting detail is they are all around the same size in diameter (around 100 feet) and there are hundreds in the shallow water surrounding the island. I have a hunch there is more to these circular feauters than meets the eye.

::: What is it? SD New Image Study, Lake Okeechobee, FL

Unusual linear features have been found via Google Earth satellite imagery under the waters of Lake Okeechobee, in Florida.  New image Study, Satellite image research- FL, Lake Okeechobee linear features.  Modern survey maps denote no modern canal activity.
Flor_2_a
The linear feature is around 50 feet wide and continues for almost the entire length of Lake Okeechobee.  Other high albedo areas can be seen on the surrounding underwater imagery that seem out of place.  It is uncertain what the features could be although it has been suggested they could be signs of an ancient canal or ancient activity.  There have also been reports of an ancient city under the lake when the lake levels were much lower.  It is unclear if this report is accurate but the odd features in the GE imagery suggest the possibility of ancient remains under the lake.

Download a Google Earth place mark here.

Another area to the North reveals the linear feature continuing in shallow water.  The waves are breaking around the linear feature showing signs that something is under the water. Flor_6_a

It is still unclear what the features could be.  There have been reports of ancient canal systems being located near lake Okeechobee but it's uncertain if these linear features could be part of that system.
